Happy Social Media Week!

When I got into higher education, I realized there is a day/week for every thing. Nurses week, nurses education week, national liberal colleges week (okay, I made that one up), but you get the gist!

So here it is, in year two of its existence....Social Media Week!

Let's check out all the cool free stuff:

Free Wi-Fi in 9 cities....thanks Skype.

Twitter---The need for privacy?

So, one of the main difference between Facebook and Twitter when it comes to advertising your business on one of them the privacy setting.
When you create a Twitter page for your business, it assumes the same role as your personal Twitter and Facebook pages---there is regulation to privacy.
When dealing with businesses my first instinct is to say “Yes, keep it open.” Then you run into everyone and their brother (truthfully, their brothers) can follow you.
Of course the good, everyone can see your business on Twitter comes with the bad. Everyone, including those who in their brief introduction of themselves outline some major red flags, can follow your business on Twitter.
But  isn’t it---the one with the most followers wins. Or not. This is a tough call. My business is open and I take the good (new local business owners that follow me) with the bad (those who have R rated okay, NC-17 businesses or hobbies follow me).
Weigh in----private or public for your business when it comes to Social Media?
Facebook Fan Pages when open to the public, anyone can join---there is no accept or deny.

How Facebook has enhanced my quailty of life in 2011....Jan Edition

Sometimes it seems I'm working on social media 24/7. Ever since starting this business 6 months ago, I have learned so much about the culture of mobile marketing and social media. I can really see the rewards transpiring for my clients.....and also for myself!

Social Media works. (period) There is so many articles and stats to back it up but the real evidence for me is how it has affected my life.  Or how I like to put it "enhanced the quality of my life:"

First and foremost working with social media has been rewarding and given me more financial freedom (hello--paid off student loans and renovating a new basement)! But even more it's given me more fun in life!

Jan 2011 Break Down of Fun

Jan 1: Bath and Body Works sends me a punch card for a free gift ever month for 6 months. I (guess) I signed up for this on Facebook at least that is what the sales associate told me. I am the envy of all the gals in the office---as I bring in my full size FREE great smelling stuff! Just have to set my calendar to remind me the first Thursday of every month (you have to come in on a Thursday---I am sure there was some study that people don't buy enough smelly stuff on Thursday....or whatever) and then head to the mall for some shopping!

Jan 21: (first snow day for the college) Playing around on Facebook, I notice that one of my favorite hotels at the beach is having a $5 Friday contest to the first 5 people that fill out this form and it's happening in 5 minutes. Filled out the form and hit submit at 1:21 pm on the dot and I won 2 $5 nights at a list of hotels of my choice to use before April 30. Vacation is booked (and I didn't think it could get any cheaper than Thanksgiving at the beach---but it did!)

Jan 26: Got a huge box in the mail from Propel Zero (love it!). Full of 2 large Propel Zero's (berry--the best flavor out there), a t-shirt and a bunch of coupons to share---along with a thank you for 'liking' Propel Zero on Facebook.

I know there is so much "good" going on in the Social Media world! Businesses are being smart about getting their clients involved and building brand loyalty at the same time. Congrats to all the businesses that decided in 2011 that this was the year they quit using advertising that isn't working and start using what does!
